Professor Yoshitaka Nishiyama and his collaborators have clarified the roles of photosynthesis in the production of extracellular reactive oxygen species, which are associated with fish mortality, in noxious red-tide-forming algae. The uncovered mechanism is expected to contribute to the development of methods that assess the fish-killing activity of the noxious red tides.
